Daniel Aklil is the CEO of the Pure Energy Centre and an Expert for the European Commission, a UK EPSRC Proposal Peer Review Expert as well as an advisor to the Polish Grant Research in Renewables, Smart Grid, Energy Storage and Innovation programs. Dr. Aklil is an expert in H2, O2, N2 technologies with over 20 experience focused on supply chains, techno-economic analysis, business planning, and identification of new market trends. Dr. Aklil is a co-author of the Elsevier “Hydrogen Encyclopaedia” and “Life After Oil”.

Microgrids for Access and Resiliency in the Pacific: Key Issues and Lessons

The Clean Energy Solutions Center (CESC) is partnering with the Pacific Region Infrastructure Facility to support the region’s development of micro-grid and smart-grid infrastructure. As governments and utilities in the Pacific Islands work to integrate more renewable energy into their electricity grids, smart grid technologies and micro-grids are emerging as important tools to modernize their energy systems, reduce energy losses, increase energy access and build resiliency.

Yi Liu

Since 2008, Dr. Yi Liu has been working on smart grid, and his research interests are in energy internet planning, and flexible energy resource planning, control and optimization. He has participated in several key smart grid projects of State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid Company Limited. He participated in various work related to energy Internet in 2014. In early 2015, and he took part in the establishment of Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University, and work as deputy director there until now.

Ville Rimali

Mr. Ville Rimali is an expert in business development, digital offering development as well as company mergers. Currently, he is responsible for business development in the energy industry in the Philippines. During the past career, he has worked in the global business development team of Wärtsilä Energy Solutions, developed microgrids around Asia Region based in Singapore and has been responsible for smart grid demonstration in local utility in Finland. Vikas Gaba is the Partner, Power & Utilities, KPMG in India. He has over 14 years of experience working across the South Asia region with leading donor agencies and public sector institutes in designing power markets and policy & regulatory reforms. His expertise includes renewable energy, policy & regulatory reforms, energy efficiency, smart grid, corporate planning & governance processes, institutional capacity development, and people management as part of larger reform initiatives.

Narayankumar Sreekumar

Mr. Sreekumar is an electrical engineer by profession with a Master's Degree in Energy Engineering from Anna University. He has more than seven years of experience in the power sector working with various stakeholders such as generation and distribution companies, regulatory commissions, policy makers and development organizations (World Bank, NFA, IFC, UNDP, IEEJ, GSEP, DFID, SDC, and NEDO). Yang Liu

Dr. Liu is a Senior Research Fellow in the Energy Studies Institute of the National University of Singapore (NUS). He leads research and consultancy projects in the areas of the integration of renewables and energy efficiency, energy market design, and policy evaluation. Some of his recent work includes impact assessment of long-term energy technologies portfolio in Singapore, prospects of the energy services market in ASEAN, as well as electricity market design and business models for smart grids. Kavita Sinha leads grant-making strategies that enable corporates, utilities, civil society, financial institutions, and governments in Southeast and East Asia to transition to clean and low-carbon energy system. In her previous role, she worked with an American multinational firm that provides smart city, smart grid, and internet-of-things solutions, where she led strategic partnership, business development, and sales in key markets of Asia.

Bodha Raj Dhakal

Mr. Bodha Raj Dhakal has over two decades of professional experiences, engaged in the planning of rural electrification and distribution system, study, project preparation, feasibility study, determination of financing model and execution of those projects as a project manager. He is also responsible for Energy Efficient Initiatives and worked as the Project Manager for Design and implementation of a nationwide Energy efficient CFL program as a part of a Demand Side Management (DSM) program, aimed at reducing the evening system peak demand.
