What does it take to become a smart city like Seoul?

In this brown bag session hosted by ADB's Urban Sector Group, Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) executive director Hongsoo Lee discussed the different factors that led Seoul to become one of the world’s leading smart cities. He also shared his experience working for the urban regeneration of Singapore, another proponent of smart cities, and emphasized the importance of the 4P: public-private-people partnership.

16th Global Forum on Human Settlements: Accelerate Green Transformation and Innovation towards Healthy, Resilient, and Carbon-neutral Cities

The 16th Annual Session of Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS 2021) was held in a virtual format to observe the World Cities Day from October 27 to 29, 2021, with the theme being “Accelerate Green Transformation and Innovation towards Healthy, Resilient and Carbon-neutral Cities”.
Bambang Susantono, Vice-President for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development at Asian Development Bank, delivered his speech during the Opening Session.

Ryan Kwang-bok Lee

Ryan Kwangbok Lee is a director in charge of operating K-City Network - the Korean government’s smart city development support program for overseas governments. He works at Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND) as director of program management, director of real estate investment, and currently as the head of research. Before he joined KIND, he worked in the private sector as East Africa regional director and Energy/ICT/ Infrastructure project manager at Samsung C&T Corporation.

So-young Iris You

So-young Iris You is a principal researcher of Innovative Transport Policy Division at Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI). Her research interests focus on advanced technology applications in public transportation systems engineering, including Super Bus Rapid Transit (S-BRT), On-demand Mobility Systems, and Planning for a User-friendly Transit Center. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to that, she was a researcher at the Korean Transportation Institute (KOTI).

Hyung-jin Joo has been in the electronic vehicle (EV) charging business industry for over 10 years. He started the EV charging business in POSCO ICT Corp., a major ICT company in Korea and then spin-off to ChargEV corp. in 2019. His background is IT engineering and Energy Storage System business. Before joining POSCO ICT Corp., he worked at Alcatel-Lucent Corp.
