Infrastructure is central to improving the lives of people and achieving inclusive and sustainable development. ADB recognizes that investing in resilient infrastructure systems is a human, environmental and economic imperative with clear economic benefits. Asia and the Pacific will need to invest $26.2 trillion in infrastructure during 2016–2030 to maintain its growth momentum, eradicate poverty, and respond to climate change.

Healthy and Age-Friendly Cities in the People's Republic of China

Cities have contributed greatly to people's health and well-being. As rapid urbanization, aging, and the COVID-19 crisis continue in ADB's developing member countries (DMCs), officials need evidence-based approaches to improve the quality of life in cities. In this online seminar, a team from ADB described a few tools for integrating these initiatives in urban planning efforts which are applicable for the People's Republic of China and other DMCs.

Earth Observation for Sustainable Development Webinars

Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EO4SD) is an initiative of the European Space Agency that aims to increase the uptake of satellite-based environmental information in international financial institutions. It will follow a systematic, user-driven approach in order to meet longer-term, strategic geospatial information needs in the individual developing countries, as well as international and regional development organizations.

High-Level Roundtable on Asian Cities: Fostering Growth and Inclusion

Urbanization is widely believed to be an engine of growth. Cities host dynamic firms and create productive jobs, with agglomerations resulting in better matches between workers and jobs, strong input-output linkages, and more knowledge spillovers. But there is some concern that the nature of urbanization underway in developing countries today may undermine the potential for cities to serve as engines of growth and generate productive and well-paying jobs for workers at large.
