ADBI Virtual Workshop on Effective Greenhouse Gas Emission Control Policies

Many developing Asian countries are committed to greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, or Nationally Determined Contributions, under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. To achieve these targets, countries have started to plan and implement policies incentivizing emission reductions, such as carbon taxes and emission trading schemes. However, their effectiveness is challenged by factors including policy design, energy prices, and the COVID-19 crisis.

Dr. Areeporn Asawinpongphan holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the National Institute of Development Administration and a Master’s degree from Southampton University. She specializes in Development Economics, Energy Policy, and Management Consulting. Her career includes ExxonMobil, Banpu Public Company Limited, and McKinsey & Company roles. Currently a Research Fellow in Energy Policy at TDRI, she leads projects on Thailand’s electricity market reform and serves on committees under the Energy Regulatory Commission. She consults globally for Indonesia’s PT PLN and PERTAMINA.
