Green Building – Energy Efficiency Electrification Business in Asia Pacific Region

This presentation discussed the market trends in energy efficiency, especially in the building sector, the international standard for green buildings, and the various energy efficiency solutions covered by ABB. It also presented specific case studies that build a strong case for smart green building automation to achieve both operational and energy efficiency.

Blockchain’s Potential to Support PV Investment and Grid Integration

Does distributed ledger technology, specifically blockchain technology, have a role in helping Asia’s countries increase PV investment and grid integration? We believe that Asia is a high-potential market in which to push the limits of blockchain’s capabilities in the power sector, particularly less-developed countries where there are potential benefits of working in an unbuilt environment—a technological “white space.” Challenges notwithstanding, blockchain has shown the potential to help overcome obstacles that keep millions of people in the dark worldwide.

Exploring Factors that Enhance and Restrict Women’s Empowerment through Electrification: Scoping Study Report

This report examines how policy and practice may enhance women’s empowerment though electrification in rural areas in the South. It presents the results of a desk study in which empirical literature on women’s empowerment from electrification and international initiatives and national electricity policies in Kenya, India, and Nepal are studied.

Community Rural Electrification in Nepal

Nepal faces significant challenges in rural electrification, with less than 35% of the rural population electrified. Much has been done to address this such as increasing the grid-connected electrification rate in areas without electricity and empowering Electricity Users Cooperatives (EUCs). This case study presents an example of the process and results of the capacity building support provided to EUCs by an Asian Development Bank-supported project that aimed to increase rural poor women’s access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy sources and technologies.
