Labor Migration in Asia: Impacts of the COVID-19 Crisis and the Post-Pandemic Future

Mr. Reddy is Chief of Skills and Employability Branch at ILO Geneva since January 2018. Prior to this, he was Country Director of the ILO Office in Bangladesh, 2013- 2017. Mr. Reddy has previously been a senior advisor on TVET and Skills Development Specialist and has worked in ILO field offices in India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. His professional career in industrial relations, skills development, and general management spans over 30 years.

Closing Financial Gaps for Contributory Schemes

This presentation shares the International Labour Organization's (ILO) two-dimensional approach for the extension of social security: the vertical and horizontal approach. The former progressively ensures higher levels protection while the latter guarantees access to essential health care and minimum income security for all. It also recommends ways social protection and insurance can be more responsive to people's needs. Particularly, it discusses the role non-contributory pensions can play to extend coverage and reduce poverty.
