2nd International Forum on Low Carbon Development for Cities: Acting Together for Low Carbon, Livable, and Prosperous Cities

More than half of the world’s population today live in cities, and 80 percent of the world’s energy is consumed here. As part of its Strategy 2030 commitments, ADB aims to support cities in their journey to become low-carbon and more livable by supporting the development of a system that cities can use to implement climate actions customized to their needs.

Kavita Sinha

Kavita Sinha leads grant-making strategies that enable corporates, utilities, civil society, financial institutions, and governments in Southeast and East Asia to transition to clean and low-carbon energy system. In her previous role, she worked with an American multinational firm that provides smart city, smart grid, and internet-of-things solutions, where she led strategic partnership, business development, and sales in key markets of Asia.

Weiwei Kou

Weiwei Kou is currently the Director of Investment and Enterprise Development Department of Ant Financial Services Group, where she is responsible for the management of the invested companies. In January 2018, Ant Financial completed the strategic investment in the Tianjin Climate Exchange. In April of the same year, Ms. Kou was appointed the CEO of Tianjin Climate Exchange. Ms. Kou received a Master’s Degree in Sustainability Leadership from the University of Cambridge and a Master’s Degree in Business Management from Cardiff University.

Rapid urbanization has been accompanied by increasing demand for energy and natural resources, and consequently disproportionate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cities. Witnessing unprecedented variability in weather conditions, anticipating climate change-induced threat, and recognizing the urgency to act, a historic agreement was made at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties in Paris in December 2015.
