Oyunchimeg Erdene is Principal Transport Specialist in ADB’s Transport and Communications Division, Central and West Asia Department. A Mongolian national, she has 37 years experience in planning, processing, and implementing highway projects; working with various international organizations; and overseeing transport and country portfolios in ADB. Before joining ADB, she worked in various government agencies managing a transport sector as Head of Planning and Project Manager for highway projects.

Mr. Thomas Herz is a Senior Transport Specialist with the Central West Asia Department. A German national, he has more than 25 years of experience in the transport sector spanning the entire project cycle from project inception, processing, implementation, and asset management. For various institutions, he helped build transport infrastructure and provided technical assistance in support of transport sector improvement in developing and developed countries. He advised Governments or led project teams in USA, Germany, Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia. Mr.

Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2021 Update: Transforming Agriculture in Asia

Growth forecasts are revised up for East Asia and Central Asia from the projections made in April, but down for South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. This reflects differences in vaccination progress and control of domestic COVID-19 outbreaks but also other factors, including rising commodity prices and depressed tourism. Inflation is expected to remain under control. The main risks to the economic outlook come from the COVID-19 pandemic, including the emergence of new variants, slower-than-expected vaccine rollouts, and waning vaccine effectiveness.
