The Asian Development Bank (ADB) initiated an update of its 2009 Safeguard Policy Statement (SPS) in August 2020 following a corporate evaluation by ADB’s Independent Evaluation Department in May 2020. The ongoing update seeks to modernize the policy considering the changing development context, evolving needs and capacities of developing member countries and clients, and opportunities for greater harmonization with the guidelines of other multilateral financial institutions.

Claire Charamnac

Claire Charamnac is a Social Development Specialist (Gender and Development) in the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department at the Asian Development Bank. In this role she focuses on gender and transport, health and water and urban development.

She has over a decade of experience in gender mainstreaming and implementing programs with a focus on women and girls. Prior to joining ADB, she worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the World Bank Group and Catholic Relief Services.

Patricia Bunye

Patricia Bunye is a Senior Partner and Deputy Managing Partner for Administration of Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia. She heads its Mining and Natural Resources Department and Energy practice group and is also a partner in its Intellectual Property Department. She is also the Founding President of Diwata-Women in Resource Development, Inc., a non-government organization that advocates responsible development of the Philippines’ wealth in resources.
