On 10–11 December, stakeholders discussed the critical pathways for a Just, Affordable, and Inclusive Energy Transition, building on key priorities from the G20 Energy Ministers’ meeting under India’s G20 Presidency. The event highlighted the complex interplay between advancing clean energy goals and addressing social challenges, emphasizing inclusive policies that empower vulnerable populations and protect livelihoods during the transition.
Key takeaways included India’s commitment to ambitious targets under its Nationally Determined Contributions, such as achieving 50% non-fossil power capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070. Discussions also explored opportunities for economic diversification and job creation in green industries, such as the solar sector, which could generate over 280,000 jobs.
The session underscored the importance of retraining and supporting workers, particularly in the informal sector, while fostering gender equality, empowering local communities, and engaging youth in shaping a sustainable energy future. Participants left with actionable insights on creating an energy transition that is not only environmentally sound but also equitable and inclusive.
