Ms. Mariko Ouchi has been serving as Senior Social Protection Specialist for South Asia, based in the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team (DWT) in New Delhi since September 2020. She provides technical advisory services to seven countries in the sub-region: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Before joining the DWT-New Delhi, she served as working conditions and gender specialist of the ILO DWT in Budapest, Hungary and social protection specialist of ILO DWT in Moscow, Russia. Prior to joining the ILO, Mariko worked at the Embassy of Japan in Romania as an economic and economic cooperation attaché.

During the period working in Moscow, she managed various programmes and projects on social protection in Eastern Europe and Central Asia including the assessment of social assistance system in Kazakhstan and the assessment-based national dialogue on Social Protection Floors in Kyrgyzstan. She also engaged in the process of ratification of Social Security (minimum standards) Convention, 1952 (No.102) by Russian Federation, Maternity Protection Convention, 2000 (No.183) by Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. In Budapest, Mariko was responsible for a wide portfolio including wages, working time, gender, persons with disabilities and violence and harassment and engaged in the process of ratifying Violent and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No,190) by Albania.

Mariko has two MAs: in International Studies from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and in Economics from Kobe University in Japan.
