He has been a visiting scholar at the Climate Justice Research Centre, University of Technology Sydney, Australia, the Department of Environmental Studies, University of San Francisco, USA, the Department of Social Research, University of Helsinki, Finland, and the Department of Urban and Environmental Sociology, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research GmbH-UFZ, Germany. He was a recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Academic & Professional Excellence Award (Lecturing & Research), UTS Distinguished Visiting Scholar grant, Koneen Säätiö senior researcher grant, and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft bilateral grant. His work has been published in the British Journal of Sociology, Current Sociology, Socius, Environmental Science and Policy, Economic and Political Weekly Policy, Energy Research and Social Science, and Environmental Communication.
