Chair Professor, The University of Melbourne Profile / Bio Profile / Bio Professor Pierluigi Mancarella is Chair Professor of Electrical Power Systems at the University of Melbourne, and Professor of Smart Energy Systems at the University of Manchester, UK, working primarily on energy infrastructure planning under uncertainty and reliability and resilience of future grids. Pierluigi is an electrical engineer with a PhD in Power Systems, with more than 15 years research and consultancy experience in techno-economic modelling, analysis and planning of integrated energy systems. He is a Senior Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and of the Oxford Open Energy journal, and an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Energy Markets, Policy and Regulation.Pierluigi is also an IEEE Power and Energy Society Distinguished Lecturer, the first Chair of the Energy Working Group of the IEEE European Public Policy Initiative, the Convenor of the Cigre Working Group C6/C2.34 ‘Flexibility provision from DER’, and the Australian Director of the ‘EPICS’ Global Centre in Climate Change and Clean Energy.
