Sharon Kane

Sharon Kane is the Director of Sub Region for Plan International overseeing South Asia and the Pacific Nations. Prior to this role, Sharon was the Country Director of Plan International Vietnam for the previous 6 years. Sharon has a strong commitment and belief in social justice, gender equality, inclusion and child rights - particularly for those from the most marginalized and disadvantaged backgrounds. Sharon has more than 20 years of experience working in both the development and humanitarian setting.

Sustainability of Climate Mitigation and Adaptation: Resource Depletion

Sarah Jehaan Khan highlighted the role of women in addressing environmental and climate challenges. Their dependence on natural resources leads to both their vulnerability and their being valuable source of solutions. It is important that they are trained in four eco-friendly methods that tackle and prevent the effects of climate change: rainwater harvesting, composting, organic farming, and kitchen gardening. For instance, chakwal rainwater harvesting enables girls to attend school, reduces maternal mortality, and provides livelihoods.
