Hinako Maruyama

Hinako Maruyama is a Senior Urban Development Specialist in the East Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank. She works with governments in the People’s Republic of China to formulate and implement strategic and innovative urban and rural projects. She supported multi-sectoral projects in the PRC secondary cities and promoted a nature-based approach in addressing urban flooding and restoring the local environment and water quality, human capital development and creation of innovation ecosystem, and institutional strengthening of urban and rural health and elderly care systems.

High-Speed Rail Systems Deployment and Megacity Formation: The MITO and ROSA Case Studies in Italy

Examining the case of high-speed rail (HSR )serviced city pairs of Milano-Torino and Roma-Salerno in Italy, this paper attempts to understand and explore the relationship between megacity formation and High-Speed Rail deployment. The paper proposes a model to explain the mechanisms through which metro cities integrate into megacities.

Bert Fabian is the Coordinator of the Secretariat for the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET). EANET is an intergovernmental initiative established in 2001 to create a common understanding on the state of acid deposition problems in East Asia, provide useful inputs for decision making at various levels, and promote cooperation among countries.
