Hinako Maruyama

Hinako Maruyama is a Senior Urban Development Specialist in the Water and Urban Development Sector Office of the Asian Development Bank. She has over 20 years of experience in urban development and has led sovereign lending and technical assistance operations across Asia. Her work focuses on integrated urban solutions that combine infrastructure investment, climate action, institutional reform, and inclusive development. She currently supports ADB's urban operations, knowledge programs, and sector initiatives, with experience spanning urban infrastructure, low-carbon and resilient development, regional cooperation, urban-rural integration, and livable cities.

Prior to ADB, Hinako worked in World Bank offices in Washington D.C. and Tokyo and also worked with a consulting firm to support urban and regional planning projects in Southeast Asian counties. Hinako holds an MSc from Cities Programme, London School of Economics and Political Science, MSc in urban planning from Cardiff University, and Bachelor in Engineering (Architecture) from Tokyo University of Science.
