Managing and Monitoring Air Quality in Ortigas

Outdoor or ambient air pollution is a critical environmental problem causing millions of premature deaths in Asia. At the same time, indoor air pollution is a major challenge also causing millions of premature deaths. The nature of indoor air pollution varies from one region or one country to another depending on the climatic conditions, type of housing, socio-cultural background and others.

Tanushree Ganguly

Tanushree Ganguly is a development and policy professional working as a Consultant and Programme Advisor at Coefficient Giving. She has previously served as Director of the Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) at the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, an initiative that translates air pollution data into its impacts on life expectancy to inform policy action. She has also been associated with the University of Chicago through her work on air quality research and policy engagement.

Steven Setiawan

Steven Setiawan is currently serving as Co-Thematic Focal Point of the Climate Action Working Group of the Children and Youth Major Group (CYMG) to UNEP. He has accumulated seven years of experience in air quality issues, particularly in preventing open waste burning in Indonesia through a community-based circular economy. He earned his Double Master's Degree in Circular Economy from Leiden University and the University of Graz.

Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh

Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, a distinguished emeritus professor at the Asian Institute of Technology, is the founding director of the Air Quality Nexus Center which aims to explore interconnections between Air Quality, Human Health, Ecosystem Health, and Climate to maximize multiple benefits from emission control actions. With over 35 years’ working experience, she is internationally recognized for her work on air pollution and climate which provides science-based information to formulate environmental policy and improve public health. Martin Heger

Martin P. Heger is a Senior Environmental Economist at the World Bank, where he leads air quality management initiatives across South Asia, including the regional Indo-Gangetic Plains and Himalayan Foothills program and a major air pollution project in Nepal. He previously worked in the Middle East and North Africa region, focusing on pollution abatement and environmental policy reform. His work centers on the design of pollution reduction strategies, the economics of air pollution, and environmental policy.

Yixuan Zheng

Dr. Yixuan Zheng is an Associate Researcher and Director of the Office of Air Quality Management at the Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning. He also serves as the Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution and Greenhouse Gases Co-control, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China. His research focuses on environmental policy assessment and co-control strategies of air pollution and GHG emissions.
