Tackling Inclusion and Scale to Reach the Last Mile for Rural Poverty Alleviation: Key Insights from Asian Examples in the Poor People's Energy Outlook 2018

Leaving no one behind is a core theme for the energy access sector and relates directly to the potential for energy access programs to inclusively address rural poverty. This presentation discussed key insights from detailed analysis of at-scale energy access programs in India and Nepal from Poor People’s Energy Outlook (PPEO) 2018. It also highlighted contrasting approaches to program design and propose a set of metrics to assess inclusiveness by gender, remoteness, and poverty.

Mr. Bodha Raj Dhakal has over two decades of professional experiences, engaged in the planning of rural electrification and distribution system, study, project preparation, feasibility study, determination of financing model and execution of those projects as a project manager. He is also responsible for Energy Efficient Initiatives and worked as the Project Manager for Design and implementation of a nationwide Energy efficient CFL program as a part of a Demand Side Management (DSM) program, aimed at reducing the evening system peak demand.

An emerging feature of more recent climate change litigation is the use of some type of environmental right as the basis of the claim. The environmental rights invoked include the right of the public under the public trust doctrine; constitutional rights, particularly the right to life and the right to a clean and healthy environment; and more generally, human rights. This trend is likely to continue.

Disaster Insurance and Reinsurance Solutions in the Agriculture Sector

The agriculture sector faces various risks, such as climate change and rising prices of materials for production. Farmers deal with these risks using different methods, such as mixed cropping and staggered sowing. Agricultural insurance and government support can help, but a holistic agriculture risk management approach is recommended to ensure risks are reduced and farmer incomes are increased.
