Before joining ADBI, he worked at the Ministry of Finance (MOF) of Japan in various capacities, most recently as Executive Vice President of the MOF Policy Research Institute. Prior to that, he worked as Deputy Director General and Director of the Coordination Division of the MOF Customs and Tariff Bureau, and as Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

In this role, he co-heads ADBI’s Research Department, leading research workstreams on macroeconomics, finance, and infrastructure. He was previously a research fellow at the ADBI and before that, he spent over a decade in Germany as an economist at the European Central Bank (ECB), mainly in the areas of international policy analysis and economic research on global financial markets, capital flows, and commodities.
