21st Conference of the Parties: What are the Implications for Local Governments?

The Paris Agreement on Climate Change is a universal sustainable development mechanism that includes climate change mitigation commitments for all countries. It encourages action at the subnational level as it recognizes the key role that local governments play in tackling climate change. Localization of the Paris agreement goals provides an opportunity for local governments to act locally and impact globally.

Na Won Kim

Na Won Kim has managed and worked on various range of technical assistance and loan projects relating to sustainable and inclusive development, low carbon city development projects promoting cross-sectoral intervention and system innovation for sustainable and climate friendly urban development, water supply and sanitation, clean and renewable energy, energy labelling system, sustainable transport, sustainable buildings, ecosystem-based adaptation, and many other areas of infrastructure and system of provisions at Asian Development Bank.

Asia Leadership Program

Asia needs leaders and changes agents to bring climate change solutions and sustainable development to the region.

The Asia Leadership Program on Sustainable Development and Climate Change aimed to produce a critical mass of “change agents” among policy makers and practitioners in ADB’s client countries. These change agents would incorporate innovative solutions for climate change and sustainable development in their policies and development programs; and catalyze and facilitate expanded sharing of knowledge solutions with and among ADB’s client countries.

Erik Solheim

Following an extensive career focusing on environment and development in government and international organizations, Erik Solheim was elected to become Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme on May 13, 2016. Prior to joining UNEP, Solheim was the chair of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Oyun Sanjaasuren

Sanjaasuren is a Member of the Parliament of Mongolia. She was elected first in 1998 and has been re-elected in the terms of 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012. She served as Minister of Foreign Affairs during 2007-2008 and Minister of Environment and Green Development during 2012-2014. During the term of 2004-2008, she respectively held the positions of Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Leader of the Democratic Coalition Parliamentary Caucus and Chairman of Sub-Committee on Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction.
