Public procurement is commonly used by governments in developed countries to promote innovation and socio-economic policy objectives, including small and medium-sized enterprise development and green growth. However, the strategic use of public procurement as a public policy instrument for innovation is still uncommon in Asia and requires a strong enabling environment to overcome associated challenges.

In April 2018, Mr. Ban Ki-moon was elected as the Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia. In January 2018, Mr. Ban and former President of Austria, Mr. Heinz Fischer, were inducted as Co-Chairs of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Ban Ki-moon is the Chairman of IOC Ethics Committee in September 2017. Currently, he is a Distinguished Chair Professor and Honorary Chairman at the Institute of Global Engagement & Empowerment at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.
