Don Pomb Polye

The Honourable Don Pomb Polye hails from Wabag in the Enga Province, within the Kandep Electorate. He did his Primary and High School in the Western Highlands Province from 1975 (Grades 1-6) to 1984 (Grades 7-10). Minister Polye was selected to do his Secondary Education at the Passam National High School in Wewak, East Sepik Province from 1985-1986. He then proceeded on to PNG’s University of Technology (Unitech) for his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering which he completed in 1990.

WaterAid: A WASH strong COVID-19 response

In this presentation, WaterAid shared their response to COVID-19 in Asia and the Pacific, specifically in the eight countries they work in: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste. Given the changing dynamics of the pandemic, WaterAid has taken a context-specific and phased approach to support government-led action plans, depending on rate of transmission and lockdowns, and prioritizing the most marginalized groups.

Investment Opportunities for Nature-Based Tourisms in the Coral Triangle

The World Wide Fund for Nature’s Coral Triangle program supports the development of responsible nature-based tourism in six countries, including Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. This session aims to stimulate further thinking on how investing in natural capital can be utilized to support the development of countries involved.

Gregory Auta’a, Principal Tourism Officer, the Government of the Solomon Islands Auta’a is the Principal Tourism Officer for the Government of the Solomon Islands, overlooking projects and product development within the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the whole of the country, with a special focus on pilot projects led by the ministry and the Eco-tourism project grant program.

Developing and Promoting Sustainable Nature-Based Tourism in the Coral Triangle

Jointly organized by ADB and the World Wide Fund for Nature, this session discussed investment opportunities in nature-based tourism in the Asia-Pacific region. The Coral Triangle Sustainable Nature-based Tourism Project aims to assist the six countries of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security in regional collaboration for the acceleration of achievements of regional and national marine conservation goals.

Skills Development as Part of Infrastructure Projects

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is proposing for the integration of skills development in infrastructure projects as part of its cooperation agreement with Asian Development Bank and its member countries. Engagement of contractors in training activities is a fast-track approach to addressing the challenges associated with the proposed task.
