Jittima Rodsawad

Jittima is the Public Health Technical Officer in the Health Impact Assessment Division at the Department of Health. Since 2002, she has experience with HIA applications for public parks in the Yala municipality in Thailand. She is also responsible for developing HIA training courses for practitioners and local government. From 2015-2017, Jittima was the coordinator of regional cooperation on Thematic Working Group on HIA under Regional Forum on Environment and Health in the Asia Pacific, and oversaw the technical cooperation between Thailand and Lao PDR on HIA.

Hazardous Material Management in Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

The Thilawa Special Economic Zone is the first operational SEZ in Myanmar and one of the largest industrial development. Thilawa SEZ recognized the need for proper hazardous material management in addition to waste management to avoid accidents such as chemical accidents and explosions. It has adopted aspects of health impact assessment as a risk management tool, as well as a management tool for healthy economic zones development.

HIA for Economic Zones in the Greater Mekong Subregion

There are over 500 special economic zones (SEZs) across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). This HIA framework was developed to identify, mitigate, and manage health risks and impacts in economic zones of the Greater Mekong Subregion and address transboundary issues associated with human migration. It proposes HIA as an effective SEZ management support tool to achieve optimum benefits for businesses and associated communities alike.

Helen Brown

Helen is a health and environment consultant who has been researching and teaching in the field of climate change and health for over 20 years.  Her research and practice include the application of Health Impact Assessment and systems thinking to tackle the health impacts of climate change.  Helen was the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for HIA at Curtin University from 2014 to 2021 and the Chair of the HIA Network Asia Pacific from 2018 to 2021.
