Scaling Up E-Mobility as a Platform for Sustainable Urban Transportation

Electrification of transport modes is already a global trend. In this scene-setting presentation, ADB's Ki-Joon Kim makes a case for electric vehicles (EVs) as an immediate solution for reducing GHG and urban pollution. He also outlines the deciding factors for electric vehicle viability, as well as recommended policy actions for consideration by governments. He concludes by highlighting that while EV studies and financing by international institutions are growing fast but needs more cross-sectoral efforts to accelerate EV deployment.

Chae Sung Lee

Chae Sung Lee is the Chief Consultant of the Korea Management Association Consulting. He was involved in the conduct of feasibility studies on electric car charging stations and on ESCO SPC (Korea Electric Power Corporation) and participated in improving low-income households in Tajikistan (KEXIM, bilateral KSP with ADB).

He obtained his MBA from the National University of Singapore.

Vignesh Nandakumar

An electrical engineer from IIT Madras, with a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA from the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, Vignesh has significant experience in technology development and renewable energy, in initiating, sustaining and building new businesses across India, Thailand, and South Africa. He currently is a Partner with Aspada Investments, an impact fund focused on the impact on environment and livelihoods and leads the energy, environment and supply chain investments, including into electric vehicles.

Robin Hughes

Following a career in risk management and treasury training, Robin Hughes has focused on commissioning "CleanAir" Public Transport Programmes in ASEAN and developing countries in the Asia Pacific. His recent research includes electric vehicle (EV) affordability for marginalized borrowers” in emerging markets, and range extending-on-board charging for commercial and public transport EV applications. He is currently focused on delivering EV to passenger transport and logistics markets, under the mantra of EV- achieving optimum application, access, and affordability.

Atsushi Najima

Atsushi Najima is the president and managing director of Nissan Philippines, one of the fastest growing automotive brands in the country. Prior to his present role, he joined Nissan as deputy general manager of Nissan’s regional financial management group in Japan. Atsushi currently develops business strategies to maximize and maintain Nissan’s outstanding performance in the country.

Anthony Agoncillo

Tonichi Agoncillo has been with MERALCO for 19 years and he has been involved in the company’s initiatives in the electric vehicle (EV) field for the past 10 years, as well as assisting the local EV industry in the same amount of time to grow into what it is today. He helped organize the 1st Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit in 2010 which led to the establishment of the Electric Vehicle Alliance (EVA).
