Anthony Agoncillo

Tonichi Agoncillo has been with MERALCO for 19 years and he has been involved in the company’s initiatives in the electric vehicle (EV) field for the past 10 years, as well as assisting the local EV industry in the same amount of time to grow into what it is today. He helped organize the 1st Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit in 2010 which led to the establishment of the Electric Vehicle Alliance (EVA). The partnerships he forged with local players brought forward a string of EV deployments which include electric shuttles used as a means of transport for Meralco, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and the Quezon City local government unit, to name a few. He likewise drew on the electrical engineering expertise within Meralco to locally develop EV charging pods to cater to the requirements of eTrikes and eJeeps and put up in 2013 the first showcase of a fully operational grid-tied EV charging station complemented with solar and wind sources within the Meralco compound.

Tonichi is now forging ahead in the study of deploying fast chargers, including the potentials of V2G (vehicle-to-grid), in line with the expected influx of higher technology EVs in the country.
