Coal Mine Methane Development Project: The First Large-Scale Capture and Use of Coal Mine Methane for Power Generation in Asia

The expansion of coal production and consumption in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), fueled by fast-paced economic growth, has increased environmental, health, and safety hazards at coal mines. In 2004, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the PRC established the Coal Mine Methane Development Project to develop new technologies that will demonstrate efficient and effective coal mine methane capture, production, and utilization in power generation and also improve the environment.

Lanzhou's Bus Rapid Transit System Brings Quick Relief to Busy City

This publication showcases how an ordinary road network expansion can be transformed into a sustainable urban development initiative through the use of an innovative and green transport system.

The city of Lanzhou, in the People’s Republic of China's Gansu province, is home to around 3.6 million inhabitants. As a busy city, and a transport hub at that, it has been suffering from congestion. The Lanzhou Municipal Government (LMG) planned to decongest it by expanding its center onto one of its four districts.

Japan Fund for Joint Crediting Mechanism and Innovative Low Carbon Technology

This presentation discusses Asian Development Bank’s contribution to climate finance using the Japan Fund for Joint Crediting Mechanism as project example. A list of advanced low carbon technology examples is shared. The presentation highlights that while innovation presents challenges, it is, however, necessary to achieve sustainable development in Asia.
