International Forum on Low Carbon Development for Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program Cities

Rapid urbanization has been accompanied by increasing demand for energy and natural resources, and consequently disproportionate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cities. Witnessing unprecedented variability in weather conditions, anticipating climate change-induced threat, and recognizing the urgency to act, a historic agreement was made at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties in Paris in December 2015.

Intersections of Climate Justice and Human Rights: Lessons from South Asia

South Asia’s jurisprudence relating to environmental rights and sustainable development is a good example to the rest of the world. For instance, judiciaries in South Asia have used existing rights creatively and articulated the right to a healthy environment. This trend continues in relation to climate change. Nathan Rive

Nathan has worked on climate change policy, economics, and science for over 20 years in Europe and Asia. In ADB’s Agriculture, Nature, Food, and Rural Development sector office, he develops climate change adaptation and disaster resilience projects and programs primarily in the water resources sector. He holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Policy and an MSc in Environmental Technology (Energy Policy) from Imperial College London.

Catherine Marsh

Cathy Marsh, a British national, is Assistant General Counsel for the Nonsovereign Operations team and joined ADB on 30 August 2018. Prior to joining ADB, Cathy was a partner in the London office of the US law firm Milbank from 2004 to 2013, and an associate at Milbank from 2001 to 2004. She was previously at Clifford Chance from 1993 to 2001.

Asif Turangzai

Asif Turangzai is Associate Project Officer, Pakistan Resident Mission. He is geo-spatial engineer by background (Specialization in GIS and Remote Sensing) and working in the field of Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction & Management, and Resilient Urban & Regional. Prior to his joining as staff, he worked as consultant with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for 5 years and supported ADB to implement the disaster risk reduction output under the Flood Emergencies Reconstruction and Resilience project.

Vidya Soundarajan

Vidya Soundarajan has more than 2 decades of experience in the fields of sustainable development, climate change, public policy, development fund management, and large-scale adaptation programmes. She is the former India Programme Head of Oxford Policy Management and Senior Regional Advisor for Climate Change and Energy of the British High Commission.
