At the Intersection: Smart Inclusive Cities in Southeast Asia

The COVID-19 pandemic has derailed many of the development gains made in Southeast Asia in recent decades, severely impacting the lives of the poor and marginalized. In the ‘new normal’, can Southeast Asian cities use the rise of digital technologies to overcome inequalities and improve he lives and livelihoods of the disadvantaged? What can the public, private, and civil society sectors do to drive solutions that are both smart and inclusive?

Chhaya Jha

Ms. Jha’s field of specialization includes Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Training, Analysis and Mainstreaming, Conflict Analysis, Project Design, Evaluation, Assessment Studies, and Facilitation/Moderation. She has been responsible for the design and implementation of GESI mainstreaming processes in various organizations including UN agencies in Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, and for UK AID, WB and ADB-funded programs in Nepal.

Maneesh Mishra

Dr. Maneesh Mishra is the Executive Vice President of Strategy, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). He focuses on initiatives and good practices in promoting the social inclusion of social identity groups and poverty reduction.

Dr. Maneesh spoke about how inclusive design of skill development and entrepreneurship programs can help navigate through barriers of gender, caste, and intersectional disadvantages.

Pallab Chakma

Currently, he is working as Executive Director of Kapaeeng Foundation (KF), a leading indigenous peoples’ organization in Bangladesh that works for the promotion and protection of the rights of indigenous peoples. Pallab has been working for indigenous peoples’ land rights for the last 14 years. He has a Master's in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from the University of South Australia.

Pallab will serve as one of the Global Council representatives from Asia.
