Transforming TVET in the Philippines: Dealing with COVID-19 in the age of Industry 4.0

Presentation on the experience of the Philippines, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as the agency responsible for TVET, in building a competitive and socially inclusive workforce in the wake of Industry 4.0 and in dealing with labor market upheavals brought about by the COVID-19 crisis. Long term reforms and policy changes for the Philippines’ TVET system to adapt to rapid technological development, mitigate the impacts of COVID-19, and initiatives towards recovery and rejuvenation discussed.

Future of Skills Development in the time of COVID-19

Presentation on transforming TVET systems for countries to transition short-term TVET goals to the medium and long-term as they mitigate COVID-19 impacts and accelerate recovery and rejuvenation. TVET policy options in shaping labor market outcomes, adapting and responding to anticipated changes especially with Industry 4.0, and leveraging TVET and the role of regional cooperation for post COVID-19 economic recovery highlighted.

Future of Skills Development in the time of COVID-19

The fourteenth Policy Actions for COVID-19 Economic Recovery (PACER) Dialogue on “Future of Skills Development in the time of COVID-19” discussed policy measures that can build a competitive workforce and shape labor market outcomes. Over 100 government officials from Southeast Asia and the People’s Republic of China participated in the Dialogue, sharing country experiences and lessons on TVET policies and solutions taken to mitigate the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate recovery and rejuvenation.

Redilyn started her career as a Science and Math teacher. Her love of computers and its related technology allowed her to bloom into a TVET leader that continually influences TVET educators in the Philippines. Ms. Agub is the first trainer to be certified by TESDA for the Competency “Developing Learning Materials for eLearning” a course under Trainers Methodology Level II for Philippine TVET. She currently leads the development of courses and management of the TESDA Online Program, the TVET platform that offers FREE technical vocational courses in the Philippines.
