Carmine Piantedosi

Carmine is the CEO of Nauru Utilities Corporation in Fiji. Prior to this, he was the CEO of the Land Transportation Authority in Fiji. He also worked as a Manager of Regulation and Pricing at Goulburn-Murray Water.

He has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of South Australia and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide. 

Citywide Inclusive Sanitation: Pacific Applications

Across the Pacific, 71% of Islanders have access to basic sanitation services (JMP 2020, excluding PNG). Lack of safe sanitation access is not only a major health concern but also affects educational and health outcomes, as well as Pacific island country overall development. As the contexts and cultures in the Pacific are so diverse, sanitation systems and solutions must also be diverse.

Marlene Hsu

Marlene Hsu is a Water Research Australia (WaterRA) Research Manager and has over 15 years of experience working in the water sector both in Australia and in the UK. Currently she is playing the Project Director role for the Collaboration on Sewage Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 (ColoSSoS) project covering Australia and New Zealand. With her experience as a lead design engineer at Thames Water and design project manager for numerous leading consultancies, she brings her enthusiasm for engaging WaterRA’s research partners and stakeholders to deliver innovative and impactful research.

Sudhir Pillay

Dr. Sudhir Pillay received his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2012 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. As a postgraduate student, he won 3 scholar prizes from the Water Institute of Southern Africa and IWA-YWP Southern Africa for his research on gravity-driven membrane technologies, anaerobic systems and Decentralised Wastewater Treatment. He is currently employed at the South African Water Research Commission where he is responsible for the strategic moulding of the non-sewered sanitation RDI portfolio.
