Arin Dutta

Arin Dutta is a Senior Health Specialist at ADB. He is a health economist who has worked extensively on health sector reform and health financing, especially on the scale-up of health insurance schemes. Before ADB, he held lead technical roles while supporting USAID-funded projects across Asia and the Pacific, and sub-Saharan Africa and worked on innovative financing for social protection in Asia. He has experience in health system strengthening, with a focus on primary care and maternal and reproductive health costing and financing.

James Buchan

Prof Buchan has specialized in healthcare workforce policy analysis throughout his career. His background includes working at the national level in the National Health Service in Scotland, his home country, and as a  specialist adviser to  Health Workforce Australia, a federal government agency. He has also worked for WHO in Geneva and Copenhagen. He is currently working as an adviser in Europe, Asia, and the Pacific, for governments and international agencies such as ICN, WHO, World Bank.

Health is an area where youth-led activities have the potential to significantly affect outcomes for young people, and in turn, have whole life-cycle implications. For instance, in the area of diet, harmful habits (drugs/alcohol), and exercise, positive behavior change can reduce non-communicable diseases stretching into adulthood. In addition, the pandemic has shown that decisions taken to avert one health crisis can have significant effects on other health outcomes, especially on young people.

While the protests showcase youth’s frustration in current socio-political systems of managing the climate emergency, they are increasingly bringing youth in the limelight of ‘taking action’ and several governmental and non-governmental actors are now reinforcing this rhetoric particularly at the upcoming UNFCCC COP26.
