2016 Development Effectiveness Review: Is ADB Really Set Up to Deliver Results?

ADB’s Bernard Woods discussed the Development Effectiveness Review 2016 and how ADB reviews its performance against its own indicators and targets, takes stock of its achievements, and identifies areas to strengthen its approach. The Development Effectiveness Review 2016 is the culminating report that reflects on the last four years of achievements under ADB's current results framework, and progress towards the interim targets of Strategy 2020 and its Midterm Review.

Towards Student-Centered Learning: Boosting Student Learning Outcomes

Phenomenon-based learning, a shift from focus on school subjects to actual real-world and interdisciplinary topics, was introduced by the Finnish Government through a National Curriculum Framework it put into effect in 2016. “LUMA Centre Finland” and “Finnish Schools on the Move,” two notable educational programs implemented in Finland, are also featured in this presentation.

Gender in Technical and Vocational Education and Training Programs

Empowering women and promoting gender equality, Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has a catalytic effect in the achievement of other SDGs. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) integrates gender mainstreaming in its technical and vocational education and training programs. In addition to providing overall TVET assistance to girls, ADB also supports their participation in non-traditional sectors.

ADB Gender Month 2017 Celebration

ADB holds a series of gender-related activities annually throughout the month of March to reaffirm its commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The month-long activities aim to: (i) promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the work culture and environment; (ii) provide an understanding of ADB’s institutional commitment to gender mainstreaming; and (iii) demonstrate the benefits of gender mainstreaming to greater operational effectiveness and key ADB Gender Policy.

How Does Unpaid Care Work Affects Women’s Opportunities and Gender Equality? Findings of the "Care, Gender, and Inclusive Growth in the People’s Republic of China" Project

This presentation summarized the findings of a project entitled “The Care Economy, Gender, and Inclusive Growth”. The project was sponsored by the International Development Research Centre of Canada that involved a total of 17 Chinese economists. This presentation mainly answered questions on how PRC's ongoing socioeconomic transformation reshapes the institutional arrangements of care for children and elders, and how the changing care economy affect women's opportunities and gender equality in the labor market.

This presentation discusses seven development myths, provides evidence on how these perceived myths should not be considered realities, and shares corresponding take-aways that are just the exact opposite of these myths.

Attiya Inayatullah

Dr. Attiya Inayatullah holds a Ph.D. in Demographics and has had a life-long association with the Family Planning Association of Pakistan.

Former Chairperson of the Executive Board of UNESCO, she has acquired international recognition in the fields of international relations, human rights, gender equality and social development at both the global level and in Pakistan. As a member of the first International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO, she contributed to the Universal Declaration on Human Genome and Human Rights.

Prabhjot Khan

Prabhjot works in ADB's Gender Equity Thematic Group and provides support for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the ADB Policy on Gender and Development and Strategy 2030’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Operational Plan, 2019-2024. She has many years of experience in mainstreaming gender into programs and projects in infrastructure sectors such as urban, transport, energy as well as social sectors such as skills/education, agriculture & natural resources, health..
