Welcome Remarks

In his welcome remarks, Justice Kamal Kumar highlighted the constitutional right of every Fijian to a clean and healthy environment and the Fijian government's commitment towards providing a safe, sound, and healthy environment for everyone. He thanked the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Environment Programme for choosing Fiji to be the host of this conference, the first ever international judicial conference held in the Pacific.

This training manual contains the presentations corresponding to each module of the Gender-Based Violence Court: Handbook and Training Manual for Judges. Additionally, it provides ready reference to the international treaties, human rights instruments, national laws, and global and domestic jurisprudence discussed in all the module presentations.

Sudarshana Anojan

Sudarshana Anojan is the Social Development and Gender Specialist in ADB’s Sri Lanka Country Office. He carries over 13 years of experience in the international development field; working with diverse non-government, bilateral and multilateral agencies. His area of expertise includes community development, monitoring and evaluation, gender equality and social inclusion, and education.

Nidup Tshering

Nidup Tshering works as a Social Development Consultant (GAD) for ADB in Bhutan. With a background in Development Management, he has been working with ADB for the last twelve years designing and implementing social projects. His recent works include the development of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) Blueprint for Bhutan.

Legal Literacy for Women

This regional capacity development technical assistance (R-CDTA) is designed to address a plethora of issues affecting gender equality in the legal and related sectors and to plug significant gaps among institutions. It aims to strengthen the capacity of investigating, prosecuting, and decision making bodies and equip women with adequate knowledge of their rights to access social and legal justice leading to a stronger, more inclusive society. It also aims to leverage existing networks and initiatives for a more nationwide reach.
