DigitalxADB: Driving Digital Development Across Asia and the Pacific 2021

Digital technologies are today’s most powerful drivers of change. DigitalxADB aims to raise awareness and build broad consensus within ADB to continue focusing on the digital opportunities that lie ahead in a world reshaped by COVID-19.

This event is designed to help ADB’s people and partners learn more about the digital technologies that are being brought to the forefront of our operations, investments, and work.

Week 1 of DigitalxADB

Digital infrastructure underpins our modern economy, workplace, government, and society. As the rest of the world becomes more digitally dependent, expanding digital infrastructure in developing members is critical in achieving inclusive and sustainable post-pandemic recovery.

This Week session explores how developing members could take ownership of their digital futures by critically reviewing financing strategies, policies, and business models

Digital Development Forum 2019

The Digital Development Forum aimed to focus on the critical role of digital technology in the operational priorities under ADB’s Strategy 2030. The Forum:

  • identified ways to adopt advanced technologies in ADB operations and increase the impact of ADB projects and programs; and
  • ensured integration of the Digital Development Action Plan into the operational priorities.

8th International Skills Forum: Future of Skills and Jobs in the Age of Digital Disruptions

In this age of disruption and automation, how do we remain responsive and relevant in the world of work?

Developments in artificial intelligence and robotics are seen as major threats to jobs that require routine tasks. There are also growing concerns about rising inequalities and how technology is contributing to wider economic gap. On the positive side, technology provides opportunities to enhance human capacity and productivity.

Digital Technologies for Sustainable Health Systems

Under Strategy 2030, ADB will sustain its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty and expand its vision to achieve a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific. Health sector development is one of the key operational priorities under the Strategy 2030. ADB will support its developing member countries to achieve better health for all as well as other service delivery in social sectors for those in need.

Digital: Earth Observation for Forest management

The presentation showcased the ESA–ADB partnership on Earth Observation (EO) for forest management, highlighting collaborations since 2010 and over 50 projects in 30 countries. It explained ESA’s capabilities, including free and open satellite data from Copernicus Sentinels, global land monitoring every five days, and advanced tools for deforestation tracking and biomass measurement. The session introduced ESA programs such as EO4SD and GDA, which mainstream EO into development operations, and demonstrated use cases for forest monitoring, climate resilience, and nature-based solutions.
