Better Data for Better Decisions 12 to 14 May 2021 This invitation-only event was organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and was a knowledge-sharing event under the “Space in Support for International Development Assistance,” a global initiative in partnership with ADB, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the World Bank. This event provided an overview of Earth observation technologies in the context of ADB operations, by showcasing projects, and sharing experiences of ADB developing member countries. It also highlighted the benefits of using the technology for improving project design and project management, as well as supporting more efficient use of financial resources. The session included a discussion on possible collaboration with relevant agencies to build on lessons learned, scale-up innovation, and broaden sector applications, through technical and financial partnerships. ESA has been working closely with multilateral financial institutions on the use of Earth observation in several thematic areas and is now looking to mainstream Earth observation into development through a joint initiative, “Space in Support of International Development Assistance.” Program and Learning Materials 12 May 2021 Session / Activity Title Speaker(s) Introduction/ Innovation Context Recording The speaker discusses ADB's strategic perspective on Earth Observation, its applicability across sectors and thematic areas, and the importance of… Bruno Carrasco The Digital Context Recording The speaker highlights the importance of Earth Observation technology in development and how it is changing the development outcomes in ADB's… Thomas Abell ADB Operations Perspective Earth Observation Services to Support Water Resources, Agriculture, and Aquaculture Presentation The speakers present the application of Earth Observation technology in water resources management, agriculture, and aquaculture in Indonesia.
