Climate and Disaster Risk Information for Climate Change Adaptation: Challenges and Solutions

In this high-level exploration, participants reflected on the generation of useful and credible risk information and how to incorporate the uncertainties of a changing climate in resilient spatial and infrastructure investment planning. This included spotlighting perspectives on current and emerging risk modeling capabilities, on risk communication, and on the information needs of planners and decision-makers.

Anthony Kiem

Dr Anthony Kiem is a hydroclimatologist. His research focus is on understanding the drivers and impacts of climate variability and change in the Asia-Pacific region. Of particular interest are hydrological extremes and how these may change in the future. Anthony has extensive experience in characterising impacts of climate variability and change, seasonal/interannual forecasting, extreme event (e.g. flood, drought, bushfire etc.) risk analysis, hydrological modelling, stochastic modelling, and water resources management.

Doug Ramsay

Doug has a background in coastal management and engineering with particular expertise in the areas of coastal processes, coastal engineering and shoreline management, coastal hazard and risk assessment, disaster risk reduction, climate change and adaptation, environmental assessment, and community participation. The first ten years of his career was spent at HR Wallingford in the UK where he was involved in coastal management projects across the UK, Europe, Caribbean, South America and SE Asia.

Wayne King

Wayne is the Director of Climate Change Office Cook Islands located in the Office of the Prime Minister, on Rarotonga, Cook Islands. He has been involved in climate change negotiations and issues since 1990 at a time when talk was all about the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The then UN Framework Convention on Climate Change had finally been agreed and was at the time available for signature and eventual ratification.

2021 Resilience Learning Month

In celebration of Resilience Learning Month, ADB has organized a series of online events and capacity building workshops that will highlight regional and global innovation and lessons learned on tackling climate change and building climate and disaster resilience, delivered in partnership with ADB operations departments and sector and thematic groups.
