Maria Salvetti

Maria is a Water Economist and Policy Analyst at OECD for the Water Governance Program. Majority of her work is focused on the governance of water and sanitation services. Among her achievements, she produced a regional survey on water governance in Asia and the Pacific and several reports for different OECD programs, such as Water Security for Sustainable Development in Africa; Water Governance in Cape Town, and Water Governance in African Cities.

ESCAP’s Methodology for Integration of the SDGs into National Planning and Application to SDG 6 (Water and Sanitation)

This presentation presented some key statistics and trends on water resources in Asia and the Pacific, some systems observations related to water, and the crucial role that water plays in ensuring the provisioning of ecological services. She also emphasized the importance of governance, scientific data, and stakeholder engagement in SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) implementation.

ADB at World Water Week 2019

World Water Week (WWW) is the annual forum focused on transforming global water challenges. Organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) since 1991, it gathers over 3,300 people from more than 130 countries, representing influential, innovative, and dynamic organizations, leaders, and professionals working on policy, research, and other concrete solutions to water, environmental, and development challenges. The theme for each World Water Week often builds on the UN’s World Water Day theme.

Ms. Pilar Avello is a Programme Manager and one of SIWI’s experts on democratic governance and accountability in the water sector. She has more than nine years of experience working in with government agencies and civil society organizations in Latin America, Africa and Europe to strengthen and promote integrity in public administration by putting in practice transparency, accountability, participation and anti-corruption’s policies, regulations and mechanisms. Currently, Pilar is leading Water integrity and Accountability projects in different parts of the world.
