ADB at World Water Week 2019

25 August 2019 to 30 August 2019
Stockholm
Sweden

World Water Week (WWW) is the annual forum focused on transforming global water challenges. Organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) since 1991, it gathers over 3,300 people from more than 130 countries, representing influential, innovative, and dynamic organizations, leaders, and professionals working on policy, research, and other concrete solutions to water, environmental, and development challenges. The theme for each World Water Week often builds on the UN’s World Water Day theme. In 2019, the UN focused on “no-one left behind” as the theme for the 2019 World Water Day and World Water Development Report, in keeping with the fourth year of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

For the 2019 World Water Week, the theme is “Water for Society: Including All” and addressed the basic objective of this agenda to secure inclusive and sustainable development for all people in all countries. Water security underlies human and environmental security; while access to and use of water in adequate quantity and quality are fundamental to survival and prosperity.

ADB, which has long envisioned “Water for All”, has continuously been an active participant of World Water Week. In 2008, ADB began organizing Asia Day (previously Eye on Asia). This year, together with the Asia-Pacific Water Forum and Japan Water Forum, ADB organized five sessions under the Asia Focus Program, in addition to participating in other sessions convened with other partners, such as the session on youth and water security.
