Yasushi Suzuki

With two decades of experience in tax administration, Yasushi provides technical leadership on taxation issues, including international taxation and tax compliance. He also manages the Domestic Resource Mobilization Trust Fund, aiming to support sustainable tax revenues through better tax policy, more efficient tax administration and effective international cooperation. Before joining ADB, Yasushi worked for the National Tax Agency of Japan.

Kelly Bird

Kelly Bird is the Country Director for the Philippines, appointed to the position in January 2018. Prior to this assignment, he was Director of the Public Management, Financial Sector and Trade Division in the Southeast Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank. He joined ADB in June 2006 and specializes in regulatory governance and reforms, financial sector development, trade and investment policy, and employment policy, among others.

Manju Senapaty

Manju is currently working in the Appeals Committee in ADB. When she was an ADB staff, she was the focal point on aid effectiveness issues, and had also worked in the Southeast Asia Department. Prior to joining ADB, she was an economist with the UK Department for International Development.

ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard

There is increasing recognition that corporate sustainability and resilience hinges on good corporate governance making it an important factor in investment decision making. Developed by ADB in partnership with the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum, the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard can be used as a diagnostic tool to improve corporate governance standards in specific Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and across the wider ASEAN region. However, the need to make the scorecard relevant to the private sector remains a challenge.

What is a board director really supposed to be doing? What is the balance between engagement and independence? To whom does a board director owe loyalty? What happens when things go wrong?

Directors should seek to understand the board’s role and the core principles of their duties and responsibilities. They should put in place mechanisms within the board to ensure that these duties and responsibilities are discharged. The key to board effectiveness lies as much in behaviors and relationships as in structure and processes.
