Investing in Women: Advancing the Transformative Gender Agenda in Central and West Asia in a Post-COVID-19 Environment

Asian Development Bank’s Central and West Asia Department and the Gender Equality Thematic Group of the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department commemorated International Women’s Month through a virtual subregional workshop of ADB partners in Central and West Asia entitled “Investing in Women: Advancing the Transformative Gender Agenda in Central and West Asia in a Post-COVID-19 Environment" on 9–10 March 2022, 2–4 pm (Manila time). The event examined the pandemic’s gendered impacts, barriers to gender-responsive planning and programming, and the recovery strategies of government and other development actors and their contribution to women’s empowerment and gender equality.
 

Objectives:

The workshop aimed to deepen the participants’ understanding of the gendered impacts of the pandemic in Central and West Asia and the good practices and gender-responsive innovations of governments and other development actors in the context of post-COVID-19 recovery. It also aims to analyze barriers to gender-sensitive program planning and implementation of pandemic responses. The workshop discussed the results of ADB’s study on “Gendered Impacts of COVID-19 in Central and West Asia: Opportunities and Lessons for Gender-Responsive Public Investments.”
 

Target Participants:

Representatives from government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations, and other development organizations in Central and West Asia member countries, as well as ADB staff and consultants
