Her assignments dealt with urban development, infrastructure and resource management, urban upgrading, institutional capacity development, civil participation, professional networks, decentralization, and multi-level policy advice.

Alam is the GIS Expert at DMC, Dhaka Water Supply Sector Development Project (DWSSDP),Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority. 

Alam served in CDA as a GIS Specialist in Preparation of Detailed Area Plan (DAP) for the Implementation of Chittagong Metropolitan Master Plan (CMMP) which was Prepared in 1995 with the Financial and Technical Assistance of UNDP and UNCHS.
