How gender budgeting contributes to urban planning

The presentation includes discussion on: (i) the importance of taking gender into consideration in urban planning; (ii) an overview of the concept of gender-responsive budgeting (GRB); (iii) how GRB is linked with urban planning; (iv) actors and stakeholders in the GRB process; (v) some experiences from South Eastern Europe on GRB application and its impact; (vi) challenges and lessons learned while applying GRB.

City Government Finances in the Asia Pacific Region: Issues and Reform Options

Learn why local government taxes should be a priority issue in Asia.

While the timing might be right to create policies that will increase city government tax revenue mobilization, there are considerable constraints to achieving this. This presentation discusses the present status of local government taxation in Asia, and also provides tips on how to implement an urban fiscal strategy.

Using Big Data to Improve Urban Planning: Experiences from Indonesia

Stephen Cairns from Singapore-ETH Centre’s Future Cities Laboratory is presenting ur-scape, a geo-spatial tool that integrates and visualizes data at multiple scales to support urban planning. Experiences of use cases in Indonesian cities supported by ADB’s Regional Technical Assistance on Smart Cities are presented and lessons for ADB’s work in cities are drawn.

Drones and its Applications

Drone is a relatively small remote-controlled or automatic pilotless aircraft. It is an innovative equipment well suited for use in urban planning related applications such as surveying and mapping, infrastructure planning, and responding to pre-disaster and post-disaster situations.

Mapping with Drones

A new and emerging technology, drone introduces a great potential for use in high-resolution mapping complementary to traditional surveying technology and traditional photogrammetry. Geoinformatics Center, based at the Asian Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering and Technology, is engaged in research on delivering efficient and high quality aerial map products at low cost using drones.

Potential Use of Drones in Data Acquisitions in Development Projects

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) demonstrated the advantages of drones in developing projects. Recent advances in drone technology complement existing techniques, slotting neatly between large-area imagery from satellites and ground surveying. AIT also flew a drone and discussed its application to urban planning in combination with other information layers.
