Mr. Stefan Rau from EASS discussed the findings and analysis in an upcoming working paper on “Bridge to Future Livable and Green City Clusters, Cities, Towns and Villages in the People’s Republic of China: Policy Options for Urbanization in the New Era Aiming at Wellbeing and High-Quality Development.”

Greater high-speed rail (HSR) development in Asia will require policy makers and industry partners to navigate complex planning, design, construction, operational, and maintenance issues, as well as increasingly challenging domestic socioeconomic and political conditions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADBI, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, World Conference of Transport Research Society (WCTRS), Chubu University, and Eastern Asia Society of Transport Studies (EASTS), held two sessions during the 14th International Conference of EASTS.

Along with rapid urbanization occurring in many countries in Asia and the Pacific, one of the urban development challenges faced by cities is addressing the needs of their aging population and people with disabilities. By 2030, Asia will be the second-fastest aging region in the world at a 66% expected increase in the 60 and over age group. This spells the need to make urban development and services more inclusive.
