Manuel Cocco is a senior climate policy expert with more than 15 years of experience working on climate change and renewable energy policy development, including public climate finance and sustainable development advisor. He has deep knowledge of the SD and CC policy environment around the world, with a focus on Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Jurg Grutter

Jürg Grütter has worked for more than 30 years on sustainable transport, linking climate finance with transport. He has helped develop GHG transport methodologies and more than 300 sustainable transport projects linked to climate finance. He was a member of the Technology Executive Committee and advisory board member of the Climate Technology Centre and Network of the UNFCCC as a representative of the Swiss government.

Smart Grid, Smart Workforce, and Capacity Development

The number of jobs in the renewable energy industry worldwide is growing and studies indicate that much of this employment is shifting to Asia. Smarter grid will require a highly skilled workforce, with implications for retraining, training, and education. Some studies also find that the renewable energy industry indicates more gender parity than the broader energy sector. This session discusses the implications of this emerging new industry for the education system, the power sector, and the labor force.

Energy Technology Innovation in South Asia: Implications for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion

How can gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) be integrated into electricity systems modelling with a rural electrification focus? What are the potential entry points for GESI in the renewable energy programs of the Government of Sri Lanka? Smart Grid Technologies and Implications for Inclusive Development in Sri Lanka

Developed as part of a series of training programs by the Melbourne School of Engineering for ADB, this learning program aimed to further improve and update the technical expertise of ADB’s executing and implementing agencies, partner organizations, and staff on the integration of high-level technology for inclusive energy solutions with a focus on enhancing gender equality and social inclusion results and benefits. It provided scope for a dynamic learning exchange taking off from the examples and experiences of Sri Lanka.
