Digital Tools for Inclusive Data Collection in Indonesia

Ms. Tiffany M. Tran, a Human Settlements Consultant from ADB presented a rapid assessment survey of the livability profiles of Pontianak and Semarang in Indonesia. Tiffany shared some of the challenges their team faced with the rapid assessment survey-- specifically, how to do it in an inclusive manner. She also presented some of the digital tools that their team used: the Spatial Data Analysis Explorer (SPADE), developed by ADB; and Kobo Toolbox, a suite of tools for field collection of data, specifically in challenging environments where there's little to no internet connection. ​

Cindy Bryson

Cindy provides social safeguards implementation support for ADB’s Pacific Department projects, including guidance on meaningful consultation and engagement with affected people, stakeholders and civil society organizations. Before joining ADB, Cindy worked for a variety of consultancy companies and international NGOs working on social and poverty alleviation research, impact assessments and resettlement planning. Cindy holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Australian National University.

Remittances and Financial Inclusion: A Policy and Regulatory Approach

The volume of remittance inflows in the Philippines continues to grow. In 2014, remittances channeled through the banking system reached US$24.3 billion, or 8.5% of the country's gross domestic product. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) sees this is an opportunity for inclusive growth. It has fostered financial inclusion through policy initiatives that enable more Filipinos to gain effective access to a wide range of financial services that could help them manage unforeseen financial shocks and increase their savings and investments.

Asia has made substantial progress in improving educational attainment. Nevertheless, there remain significant shortfalls in the quantity and quality of education. To raise quality will require commitment to making evidence based policy decisions and accountability, financial efficiency that delivers better skill outcomes per dollar of public investment, educational delivery and access, and generating conditions for learning on-the-job.
