Ocean System Innovations in Marine Health, Climate Resilience, and Renewable Energy

The health of our oceans is vital to the planet’s climate stability, food security, and biodiversity. Yet, marine ecosystems are increasingly under threat from pollution, overfishing, and climate change. At the same time, emerging innovations, from sustainable aquaculture to marine monitoring technologies and ocean thermal energy conversion, are offering new pathways to protect and restore ocean environments.

Stefan Werland

Stefan Werland is Co-Head of the Berlin Office and Senior Researcher at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, and Energy gGmbH, GIANTS Project, where he leads work on energy, transport, and climate policy with a strong focus on sustainable mobility and international cooperation.

Werland holds a Magister Artium in Political Science, Sociology, and Geography from the University of Trier (2005), complemented by studies at Institut d’Études Politiques Bordeaux (2002–2003).

Chairul Hudaya

Dr. Chairul Hudaya is an academic and energy systems expert whose career integrates education, research, and applied innovation. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Universitas Indonesia (2006), a Master of Engineering in Energy Systems Engineering from Seoul National University (2009), and a Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Engineering from the University of Science and Technology – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (2016).

Fathah Zuhri

Muhammad Fathahillah (Fathah) Zuhri is an energy transition practitioner supporting Indonesia’s clean energy and just transition agenda through analytical and programme-level work at the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), implemented by UNOPS. His work spans policy analysis, institutional strengthening, and coordination of multi-stakeholder initiatives relevant to Indonesia’s energy transition, focusing on renewable energy development and enabling a just and inclusive clean energy transition.

Ira Palupi

Ira Palupi is a Senior Project Officer (Infrastructure) in the Energy Sector Group of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). She has been with ADB since 2016 leading implementation of project loans and result-based lending programs in Sumatera, Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan, Maluku and Papua. She is now also involved in the loan processing for several projects.

Janaki Rupasingha

Janaki Rupasingha was employed as a Quality Assurance Engineer at Clipsal Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, an electrical accessories manufacturing Organization. In 1997, she joined the National Engineering Research and Development Centre, Sri Lanka. In 1999, she received the best research award for her photo type, Tablet counting machines for Government Hospitals.
