Governance and Service Delivery: Practical Lessons for Subnational Governments through a Case Study on ADB’s Support to Nepal

Success in the achievement of the sustainable development goals starts with localization of the global agenda that positively impacts the lives of citizens through improved service delivery. This improved service delivery translates to effective delivery mechanisms which in turn strengthen the capacities of local governments.

What are the Implications for Local Governments and their Inclusive Service Delivery?

Governments around the world can pursue sustainable development more effectively by embracing a whole-of-government approach in their adaptation of the institutional framework for implementation of the global sustainable development goals (SDGs). A holistic, innovative, and inclusive approach combined with participatory governance is critical for effective implementation of the SDGs at the local level.

ADB's Governance Thematic Group

Governance is one of ADB’s eight thematic groups that aims to leverage technical expertise on governance- and public sector management-related issues. The Governance Group’s mandate is to help ADB’s developing member countries improve development results by investing in public sector reforms and supporting improved performance of institutions; supporting identification and mitigation of governance risks in ADB operations; and focusing on capacity development.
