Series: ADB Data Room: Public Sector Management and Governance Southeast Asia: Emerging Macrofiscal and Governance Challenges and Opportunities 20 to 23 April 2026 Philippines The Workshop on Emerging Macrofiscal and Governance Challenges and Opportunities, organized by the Public Sector Management and Governance Sector Office (SD3-PSMG), was held on 20–23 April at ADB Headquarters in Manila, Philippines. The workshop built on the success of the inaugural flagship workshop in 2025 and adopted a regional approach by covering key challenges and opportunities in macrofiscal and governance management across ADB’s Southeast Asia (SE) developing member countries (DMCs). The objectives of the workshop were as follows: Document lessons learned, good practices, emerging themes, and continuing challenges evident in the macrofiscal and governance systems in the SE region; and Share knowledge among SE DMCs to promote a better understanding of the ecosystem of good practices and challenges in the macrofiscal and governance space at the country level. The workshop convened senior government officials, experts, and ADB staff to discuss two overarching emerging themes in the region: (i) climate and disaster resilience in the public finance management space and (ii) opportunities to increase civil society organization (CSO) engagement in upstream and downstream public sector management reforms.
