People’s Republic of China: Study on Municipal Solid Waste Regional Integrated Management Model for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei: Final Dissemination Workshop 25 to 26 August 2022 Physical: Park Plaza Hotel Beijing Science Park, 25 Zhichun Road, Haidian District, Beijing Virtual: ZOOM The workshop will share key findings from the TA work on technical, financial and institutional challenges of improving and coordinating solid waste management across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei city cluster region. The TA recommendations will be presented, including policies, institutional arrangements, coordination mechanisms, and technical solutions to overcome current challenges and to improve the management of solid waste and increase recycling both within and across local jurisdictions. The topic is highly critical and relevant and contributes to a whole range of benefits in areas requiring urgent action locally and around the world, including: Managing increased amounts of solid waste generated around the world and in East Asia; Ocean plastics pollution reduction; Climate change mitigation and adaptation; Coordination across sector departments and local jurisdictions and within city clusters; and Aiming at a comprehensive circular economy and zero waste cities. The focus of the workshop is on regional municipal solid waste management and coordination. A series of presentations with discussion sessions will cover management modes, coordination mechanisms, solid waste segregation and recycling, cost recovery and ecological compensation mechanisms. Experts from the PRC will showcase the national situation and best practice. International specialists will present international state of the art best practice cases of regionally coordinated and integrated solid waste management, and practice. The workshop will conclude with a perspective on how improved and coordinated solid waste management can contribute to the overarching objective of circular economy and zero waste cities development.
