His main research focus in recent years has been to develop crop monitoring systems by satellite based estimation of water use and water productivity at different scales from a farm to basin. He contributes to several projects in Asia and Africa funded by European Union (EU), Dutch ministries, United Nation FAO and Asian Development Bank (ADB) on remote sensing for agricultural water management.
